The popularity of wingsuiting continues to explode worldwide. Yet the discipline of wingsuiting is essentially in its infancy, with best practices for wingsuiting safety continuing to evolve. To increase the level of wingsuiting instruction and proficiency at Skydive Spaceland drop zones, Spaceland has teamed up with world-class wingsuit competitor Anthony Zerbonia of Wicked Wingsuits to develop the Spaceland Wingsuit Academy.
“Wingsuiting is unlike any other aspect of the sport that I’ve tried,” says Zerbonia. “Being able to move horizontally and feel like you’re really flying sucked me right in. My favorite type of skydive is either XRW (formation flying between wingsuiters and high-performance canopy pilots) or acrobatic wingsuiting.”
Racking up 1900 jumps in just a few years, Zerbonia has attacked wingsuiting with a powerful passion. He has already won silver in acrobatic wingsuiting at the national and world levels, as well as strong marks in performance wingsuiting. He is also a wingsuit coach examiner, able to instruct any level of wingsuiter. Last but not least, his flying has even been featured in the Wall Street Journal.
First flight courses; Wicked Wingsuit rentals by the jump, day, and month; and advanced coaching are all on the menu for the Academy. Zerbonia will also be organizing wingsuit jumps when he’s not coaching. He’ll conduct coaching and wingsuit/XRW events at all Spaceland locations, but he’ll be primarily based in Houston.
Spaceland Wingsuit Academy pricing for coaching is as follows (not including slots):
- First wingsuit flight course: $150
- Recurrency course: $60
- Coach jump: $40
- Full day of coaching: $250
- Wingsuit coach course: $385
- Single jump rental: $15
- Daily rental: $50
- Weekly rental: $140
- Monthly rental: $200
In addition to coaching and suit rentals, Zerbonia plans to organize flocking events, XRW events, and wingsuit performance/acrobatic competitions at all Spaceland locations. Stay tuned to each location’s Facebook events page to learn about upcoming events!
“People love wingsuiting, especially in Houston with our frequent large, puffy clouds that serve as great backdrops for these long flights,” says Spaceland’s owner Steve Boyd. “We are looking forward to growing our wingsuit community and its safety with Anthony’s help.”
“We are super excited about making the Spaceland Wingsuit Academy the best in the world,” says Zerbonia.
